Contract awarded: EQOS Energie will modernise the 110-kV Lohhof substation

6. november 2019

Development of a special temporary solution for Avacon AG

EQOS Energie was awarded a contract by Avacon AG, one of Germany’s largest energy service providers, for comprehensive renewal measures at the Lohhof substation. EQOS Energie will act as sole contractor and, starting immediately, will be responsible for the entire construction management and coordination regarding two of the four partial projects – for electrical fitting and installation as well as the set-up of the field installation cables. The scope of responsibilities ranges from planning and handling of all fitting work, laying field installation cables and remodelling the required secondary technology to testing and commissioning the substation. Based on the remodelling work, EQOS Energie provides Avacon AG with significantly greater supply and operational certainty in its task as a regional power supplier and raises the Lohhof substation to the state of the art in electrical engineering.

The Lohhof substation is a single busbar station, which has two transformer fields and two conductor fields with busbar sections. “What is exciting about the fitting work is that both transformers must be kept in operation at all times despite the fitting work in order to allow sufficient power supply in an emergency,” said Wladimir Haak, head of the profit center Substation/HS Facilities in the German Energy Technology  division at EQOS Energie.

Bundled expertise from Overhead Lines Construction and Energy Technology during two construction steps

Wladimir Haak and his teams will conduct all remodelling work in two construction steps – for each of the two transformers. Project management and execution will be done in close coordination with the collaboration partners of the project parts awarded to other parties as well as with the overhead line experts of EQOS Energie. “This way, we can combine our expertise within energy technology and overhead line construction and contribute it optimally in the interest of the customer,” said Haak.

The first construction lot will be completed as early as February 2020, with the second one following at the end of June 2020. For each construction lot, the required field installation cable is laid first and connected to its corresponding transformer using the necessary temporary solution. Subsequently, the obsolete devices will be removed and disposed of. After the remodelling of the structure (foundations) by other companies, the new primary devices will be fitted and connected by the EQOS Energie staff. Furthermore, the new secondary technology will be built and connected by the EQOS Energie team of experts. Finally, the complete control panels will be subjected to a detailed functional and commissioning test and handed over to the customer in fully operational condition.
